Remedy-8^TM combines the large absorbent capacity of present bilge absorbers with the bio-remediation abilities of remedial socks.

A staged release mechanism of hydrocarbon consuming bacteria not only remediate the absorbed oils/fuel, but also release bacteria into the bilge water to clean up any residual oily scum on bilge surfaces and surrounding equipment.

Since Remedy-8^TM is constructed of all natural materials, it bioremediates itself, allowing its disposal by conventional means. Remedy-8^TM ultimately bioremediates itself into carbon dioxide, water and harmless organic tissue. Not just another bilge sock or bio-remedial sock, but both in one. Bio-remedial socks cannot absorb large quantities of hydrocarbons. The bacteria are quickly toxified and killed by sudden releases. Absorbents, on the other hand, simply trap and contain fuel/oil requiring disposal as toxic waste or, if they meet certain EPA criteria, can be disposed of in the trash/landfill where the pollution is simply transferred from the water to the land.

Remedy-8^TM is constructed entirely of naturally derived and recycled materials. The outer casing is constructed of a cotton knit fabric in which a quantity of highly absorbent specially treated cellulose (recycled paperboard treated to absorb only oils not water) is placed along with a timed release capsule of hydrocarbon consuming bacteria, to consume the absorbed hydrocarbons in the sock. Because of its construction and ability to self remediate, Remedy-8^TM is not recommended for use longer than one boating season or approximately six months.

Remedy-8^TM has an additional advantage over bio-remedial socks in that not only does it absorb, trap and remediate large quantities of fuel/oil, but will hold the absorbed hydrocarbons safely contained during the cold weather months when the bacteria are inactive. The resumption of warm weather reactivates the remaining bacteria and they go back to work.
