ALL BILGE (OIL/FUEL) ABSORBERS ARE NOT CREATED EQUAL!

The materials of construction and geometry of fuel/oil Bilge absorbers greatly affects the products performance relative to speed and amounts of oil/fuel absorbed, as in the graphic illustration shown below.

Some Bilge absorbers on the market today either: 1) Do not absorb enough hydrocarbon to effectively handle a moderate to large spill or accumulation, or 2) Do not absorb the spill fast enough to prevent the bilge pump from engaging and pumping it overboard.

Bilge absorbers constructed of rolled-up Polypropylene padding usually encased in plastic netting are effective if made of virgin Polypropylene.  Their limitation lies in their geometry of construction.  If you've ever tried to clean up a spill with a roll of toweling in the rolled up state, you can gain an idea of the slow rate of absorbency that develops once the outer layers are saturated.  The center core is so tightly wound and inaccessible that it absorbs spilled fuel/oil very slowly.  Again, a large or sudden accumulation will not be absorbed fast enough.

The answer lies in the Bilge Boy™ or similarly constructed pillows that are filled with chopped or fiberfilled polypropylene.  Bilge Boy™ has a tough outer jacket that itself is polypropylene and is filled with a fine chopped melt brown polypropylene that quickly absorbs all spilled hydrocarbons in the bilge while floating on but not absorbing water.One 5" x 15" Bilge Boy™ usually has sufficient capacity for one full boating seasons use.  Once soaked with fuel it should be treated like the fuel itself and transferred to a suitable container at the marina recycle center.   ITEM 31524TOS    3" X 15" 51524TOS    5" X 15"
